The story begins in heaven where God asks his silken-suited angel, Nicholas if everything is ready for His Son to be born. Nicholas confirms, but God has one more task for him. He wants Nicholas to go down to earth and tell Kris Kringle that he is to be a messenger of love and peace and make straight the path for His Son. Nicholas is hesitant because Kris Kringle does not like God too much, but with a little coercion, Nicholas agrees.
Next you see, Nicholas arriving at Kris Kringle’s house and now Nicholas is dressed in rags, and he is upset. He knocks on Kris’ door and when Nicholas tells Kris what God what wants and who he really is, Kris Kringle gets very upset and says that he wants nothing to do with God since now his wife is ill and God has already taken his only son. Kris slams the door in Nicholas’ face. Nicholas retreats but with an idea.
Kris then attends to his wife who has now been awakened by the slamming of the door, and the two have a romantic exchange, but it ends with Kris crying when he leaves for he feels that she will not last much longer.
The door knocks and there are four shepherds who request food for their journey. They tell Kris they are following a star that an angel told them to follow and Kris almost slams the door in their faces when from out of the shadows appears a young boy. Kris, for some reason, is stricken with awe with the boy, and he allows the shepherds to enter. On entering, Kris asks the four who the boy belongs to. They all tell him they do not know. Kris then questions the boy and finds his the boy’s questions peculiar. The shepherds who have had their fill, leave, but not without singing a love song to Kris. A love song about a camel. The boy is about to leave when Kris decides to make the boy a toy, since that is Kris’ former profession but he had to stop due to the fact that his hands now have arthritis. The two have a merry exchange while Kris painstakingly makes the toy and when Kris gives the toy to the child saying “Give this to your newborn King”, he hears a scream from the bedroom.
His wife runs out of the bedroom, cured. And when Kris throws his arms around her, he notices that he also has been cured. He asks, how is to be, when the strange boy says “it is the miracle of the Christ child”. The boy knows because he is Nicholas, the angel that visited before. Kris runs after the boy but catch him. Kris then decides to go see the newborn King, and now we come to the manger scene where people are paying their homage, including the four shepherds. Kris kneels down and thanks the child, when the adult Nicholas comes up from behind him, who has now a silk-suit and his wings, puts his hand on Kris’ shoulder. It ends with the angels from on high singing the praises of the blessed night.
