This is the story of a family who when they were rich, always gave to the poor, but now that they are in dire straits themselves feel badly that they cannot help the poor as they used to.
Jeanne, the little girl of the family, decides to put a candle in the window that maybe its light will give happiness to those who see it.
Once the candle is put into the window, a little boy knocks on the door, asking to share their Christmas with him. The family is more than hospitable to this poor, wretched child, and when they gather round the Christmas tree, they find out that they have been entertaining the Christ-child himself.
